I remember when my lofty ambitions of blogging once per were were actually achieved goals. Oh, how the memories fade. Now, I'm going to go ahead and admit, as far as The Boswell House goes, we haven't been up to things that are exciting enough to entertain an audience.
Exciting for us? Yes! Absolutely! A grand and wonderful time we've had! But most of it happens in the kitchen and the living room. We downloaded a video game recently. It's called Cloudberry Kingdom. (Go, google, download, but don't say I didn't warn you.) We'll play in teams, sometimes 4 at a time, killing hundreds (if not thousands, yes, we've broken the thousand mark) of Bobs (You'll know what a Bob is when you download the game.) But, I have no blog-o-graphic proof of our shenanigans.
We've gone through a couple of anime story lines. I highly, most sincerely, 100% recommend "Your Lie in April." It's on Netflix right now, stop reading this. Go watch that story and cry your eyes out. I swear, it deserves a Nobel prize! That show makes you feel feelings you didn't know you were capable of feeling. It's incredible.
Since my last post, we've even experienced the wonder and amazement that was the freaking series finale of Downton Abbey! (I know! I am so behind the times, this is really really old news!!)
You see, I wanted to make the series finale of Downton a real blog post. But then the days kept coming and going and coming and going and now look! The series finale is old news.
But, we did celebrate that finale. With food of course!
It all began with this fancy loaf of bread.
The day before the epic Downton Abbey Series Finale - we had gone to brunch at Prep & Pastry and procured this delicacy from the bakery. I can even remember the way it smells ...
We cut it into slices, then we slathered those slices in a delicious olive oil & seasoning mixture
We made a special trip to the deli for mortadella, salami and prosciutto!
Magic in sandwich form!
Then, we cut them into dainty little finger sandwich portions
Served alongside or dainty little finger sandwiches, was one daintily delicious cucumber "soup."
I have a hard time with cold "soups." Soup should be warm, not cold. It's like they need their own title or classification. It was more appetizing to call it a cucumber slushy. Here's the thing though, the freaking cucumber slushy was to die for delicious.
For this, we followed another one of Valerie Bertinelli's recipes. Seriously, we saw the soup and the sandwiches on an episode on Food Network like 3 days before this all happened. It was perfect!
How adorable is this setup?!
We served up dinner with some beer, like proper aristocrats, and enjoyed the best series finale ever bestowed upon fans of any show in freaking history.
The fun hasn't stopped.
Since our last encounter, dear readers, we had yet another culinary adventure:
TEXAS STYLE.
Now, perhaps you don't know this next factoid - and perhaps, if you don't know this factoid, you and I have yet to meet - because here's the thing: I love King of the Hill.
Super love. Like, Bobby dressed as cupid to win back Connie LOVE
So on a recent trip to Bookman's, my loving and wonderful husband found and purchased for me a genuine Luanne Platter action figure.
How cool is this?!
Now all that's left is to collect the whole gang, right?
We looked into that, actually. It could be a pretty pricey endeavor. We couldn't let this awesome score fall by the wayside without a proper celebration. How could we celebrate King of the Hill the Texan way? Duh. Steak!
Dylan took advantage of this opportunity to try something we had never done before, steak in the oven!
Step one, get a cast iron grill pan screaming hot!
Step two: add your steaks, give them about 2 minutes to sizzle - then flip!
Those bad boys went back into the oven to finish cooking whilst we completed their tasty topping: mushrooms!
We served these steaks with broccoli, so that we wouldn't end up with a backed up colon that would eventually become an art display. (Season 3, episode 18: "Love Hurts and So Does Art")
And did you know, dear readers, that the final seasons of King of the Hill are finally available on DVD?! Fans, such as myself, have been waiting years for this! Makes me want to dance!
Oh, self. Look, you blogged! Was that so hard?!
To pat myself on the back I think I'll make a cocoa and enjoy some of this rainy weather.
I'll see you guys later, maybe.
Thanks for reading!
