We've all heard it: The fastest way to [a man's] heart is through [his] stomach. Just like having dogs for best friends though, this one's not limited to men.
(Also, if you took a look at the goings on at the Boswell House you'd see that Dylan's best animal pal is a cat named Arnie. Seriously. Arnie is obsessed with Dylan. It's pretty freaking adorable, but I'm getting off topic here.)
Food is hands down the express route to all of our deep and loving feelings!
Who the hell doesn't love food?!
My story begins on Valentine's Day.
(Yeah, a meer 4 days after my last blog post, my timing is pathetic, lemma tell ya.)
Dylan and I are, admittedly, a couple of foodies. Whenever we want to celebrate anything, we like to come up with recipes to try. I geeked out with the notion of heart shaped foods, and then we planned a menu. The day started with one of mine & Dylan's favorite meals: Lox & Bagels. Initially, we were going to hit up a bagel joint for some heart shaped eagles. But, um. We didn't make it before they closed that Saturday before Valentine's day - what can you do? So they weren't heart shaped! They were still delicious!!
And Dylan's little bestie, Arnie, really really wanted to get his hands on our breakfast
He's so cute. ^_^
That evening, they attacked me with snuggles:
All your laps are belong to cats
Dylan went to work on some delicious Valentine's Day Ramen, and I made us heart-shaped-salad!
The salad was topped with my famous dressing, sure to go directly from your taste buds to your love receptors!
Valentine's Day may have come and gone, but the love fest continued! My sister & her family were coming to town, and Dylan and I would be hosting them! It was a labor of love transforming the guest room for their arrival. We needed to make sure it would support a family of four!
First step: sleeping arrangements!
Peggy had to help, of course. Alright - so to the left you see our awesome new air mattress for guests, it inflates into an actual bed! That thing is amazing!!! The love seat fit absolutely perfectly in the space between the air mattress and the dresser (it was incredible.) The love seat made a prefect bed for one kid! The younger sibling had a child-sized air mattress that came with them. It was AMAZING! Way to go guest room! (It also looked much more warm, inviting and homey than this picture shows haha, I just didn't get the camera out. The above is shot from my optically amazing moto G. - sarcasm intended.) Moving on!
Next step: Prep the house for KIDS!!!!
(The saladitos were for my sister.)
Okay here's the thing: we got a basket full of toys, we set up the guest room all adorable, we welcomed my family in with warm, loving arms. But we didn't take ANY PICTURES of that set up. You're just going to have to take my word for it. Also, you know I don't like to share photos of humanoids, especially the child variety so you won't be seeing them on this post either. Fret not, I still have ways to share our family adventuring that went straight to our hearts.
We went to the zoo! Where we saw the adorable otter (yes, this is the amazing optics of my Moto G yet again)
Peacocks of course!
And we shopped for adorable fuzzy things in the gift shop.
At home, the scene changed as well!
The dogs were so happy!
The family table ^_^
One-of-a-kind masterpieces
My favorite photo: how the fridge went from supporting only 2 people, to now supporting 6 of them!
On Friday, we visited with all of our extended family (no photos, sorry I was busy livin'! :-p)
Saturday, we stayed home and cooked an amazing family dinner! (I could tell the horrible story of how some of us fell ill likely from something we ate, but these photographs are gorgeous - so I'm going to instead live in an alternate universe where the delicious dinner caused no side effects and everyone lived happily ever after.)
Dylan found this awesome recipe in a magazine
Plus, the dinner gave us a reason to use our fancy Japanese rice maker
The rice was my favorite part and I don't have the scary bad association and I'm so sorry that anyone else had to experience that!! But we all know, tragedy + time = comedy, right? heh, heh, heh.
We spent lots of family time playing outside!
Chelsea loved it
We explored a little bit of nature
Enjoyed freshly picked oranges on a warm spring morning
We did all the things that families do, and we strengthened our bonds.
I loved every second of it!
