It's Such a Beautiful Hertzfeldt Party

What do you get when you cross avid theme party fans with avid Don Hertzfeldt fans?
You get a Don Hertzfelt Theme Party is what you get!

The genius of this particular party idea was born from one of those "wouldn't it be cool if" conversations. The more we talked about how cool it would be to ask everyone to choose a character from one of Don Hertzfeldt's many animated films, then make a costume, then come to a party where the decorations and food would also be pulled from Don Hertzfeldt's animated films - the more we realized that it was totally doable! Not just doable, but spectacular!

Spectacular it was!

To begin, we set aside a Saturday to get together and generate ideas for party happenings & costumes. For inspiration, we watched all of Hertzfeldt's animated marvels. We divvied up tasks, called dibs on characters and hit the ground running.

Together, we created some amazing Hertzfeldtian tributes.
With a bloated Jim, allergic to caffeine and all.
Jon is the genius behind these beautiful placards.

He also made the intricate and amazing "Poopy's First Steps" Jello shot stairs. Which featured none other than little baby Poopy!

My Mother-in-Law and I teamed up to make the adorable and delicious puffy man cake:
He was a hit:

We had no choice but to call this beautiful invention "bleeding anus punch" (Listen, I'm well aware how insane this sounds if you've never seen Rejected. The only solution here is to, well, stop reading this now and go watch Rejected. And all of the other cartoons while you're at it. The blog will be here when you get back *wink*)

There has never been, and I'm pretty confident in saying there will also never again be, a party as fun as this one to decorate for.
We hung Hertzfeldt movie quotes on various walls, and in case you were stumped, we wrote the titles on the backs. (When I say "we" I mean Jon did...)
They may be small and hard to read using the photos I have attached. But I wanted to chronicle this feat, and you'll have to take my word for it, they were awesome.

Dylan donated his artistic talents for some signs
Chez Food from Lilly & Jim, and the infamous Silly Hats Only sign from Rejected. With blow up bats ready to bash anyone daring to wear a non-silly hat.

Being an actual Emily, it was kind of a no brainer for me to be Emily Prime from The World of Tomorrow. (I know, Emily actual Prime is the baby, but it's just so fun to call myself "Emily Prime")
I fell in love with a rock, of course
And I took a selfie with my character when The World of Tomorrow was playing

Dylan was Nigel from the classic Hertzfeldt film "Wisdom Teeth" or "Visdum Tooten."

Yes. We were a strikingly lovely couple

Our amazing host Jon dressed up as Bill from the film "Everything Will Be Okay"
He had the hat:
As well as the monstrous fish head

Manda was the Queen of France from Rejected
She made an awesome hat

Jay & Wendy took on Billy's Balloon
(They're my personal favorite!!)

We had the "I am a Banana!" adorable couple!

My Mother-in-Law made the world's cutest puffy man:

This was one of my favorite photo ops of the evening:

Friends of ours (who I did not get permission to name on le blog so they're staying labeled as such) took on the painstaking process of making sure these props were perfect
They were fantastic! And! They enabled Manda to relive one of her favorite scenes:

I tried to make a prop that would allow us to recreate the HOYOOOOOO scene from Rejected:
Manda and I loved it, so, at least it was good for a laugh!

I'm actually kind of depressed that this party is over! We may have to make it an annual occurrence.

I leave you with one last photo:
I was wholly amused by my shadow when wearing the space helmet.

Thanks for reading, see you guys next time!
