There's a reason I'm calling this post "Emily's Disc Golf Adventure." You see, Emily (me, the one writing this) is not particularly well versed in the sport. I can't even give you an proper description without undoubtedly offending an avid Disc Golfer but - here's what I know if it to the best of my ability: It's like golf, except with discs. And no, they are not frisbees.
Dylan & The Dudes play disc golf pretty much every single Saturday morning (and, weather permitting, most of Saturday afternoons as well ...) They're hooked, total disc golf junkies. They've purchased special discs with particular jobs (there are drivers, mid range discs, putters and probably more that I'm unaware of.) They have special disc golf bags, Dylan even has a pair of special disc golf pants. Now, it's not just the fellas that enjoy disc golf. We have 2 girlfriends I know of who are big fans of the game, and I saw a ton of ladies out on the course. This particular lady though, she just doesn't do the sports. So when I went out with everyone to "play" disc golf, they shot discs while I shot pics. (heh, yes, I'm pretty proud of that line.)
I'm also quite proud of some of my photographs!
We played 18 holes of disc golf that day (see, that's like a golf term right?)
Here we see Dylan, sending a disc out into the ethosphere
Jon contemplating his move:
Audrey looking positively angelic!
In fact, I love all of these shots with the sun overhead!
That's our buddy Ben with his well trained disc golfing (and freaking adorable!!!) pooch.
Check out this amazing moment:
See I told you she's a well trained disc golfing pooch.
One of the other things I've come to understand about disc golf, is that similar to golf-golf, there are course hazards that need to be overcome. One of those hazards is trees. Either your disc hits a tree at high speeds and goes careening off in a direction you had not planned for - or the tree simply holds onto your disc.
Teamwork is always an effective method of reviving your disc
Oh and did I mention the best part? There's beer.
It's really a great way to spend a Saturday morning. You're out in nature, soaking up some sunshine, bonding with your pals, walking about 3 miles, it's great!
There's little spurts of aerobic activities
And you have to strategize
There's even some stellar photo ops along the way
If you get a chance to go, go. In fact, if you want to hit up Dylan for a chance to play - give us a call.
See you guys next time! Thanks for reading!
