Hello again readers! Welcome to another fun-filled adventure with The Boswell House.
Today's a pretty big day, it's the first day of Fall! Why is that exciting? You mean besides adding
pumpkin to everything from lattes to cookies? Besides bringing the boots back out of the closet?
Besides awesome new episodes and shows on tv?! You guys - you know. I know you know.
Beyond the Jack-O-Lantern's and fun size candies - we can't forget something super
synonymous with Halloween. Horror. Indeed the scream inducing scares that send
chills down your spine. It happened to me you guys.
THE HORROR!! THE HORROR!!!
I took an early day from work on Thursday and came home to meet the exterminators so that they could fill our house with glorious poison. Okay wait, that sounds bad. It's pet-safe and family safe, it only kills termites. It goes inside the walls so that should the little buggers move in, they just die instead of thriving. Good times, right? Well, in order to treat all of the necessary areas, I needed to move everything that was in the garage away from the walls. It started out like this:
I know right? Cue the "Halloween Theme" music
I didn't want to add the youtube video, it was like 2 minutes long, and I know you all know this tune |
After the workers were done I decided I might as well clean up the garage....again... (sigh.)
But, in the end - it turned out looking pretty good!
Not to shabby, right? I managed to [mostly] move everything out of the center
I realize it doesn't really look like it, but there was some reorganization over here.
This is everything that needs to go back up into the attic, and I figure it can wait for us to
crawl up there and get the Halloween Decorations. We'll kill 2 birds that day.
I still have this pile to sort out where it's all going to live:
BUT! This next photo makes me crazy proud.
I can't tell you how much I cleared out in order to move what is there into place. It felt great!
If I wanted to, I could totally fit the Scion in there now. ... wait ... why don't I have the Scion in there now?!
I may very well be champing at the bit to start decorating for Halloween, but first I have to prepare!
This year, we wanted to do skeletons. Large 5 foot tall skeletons out in the yard, posed, you know, doing things. Maybe even a couple of them actually climbing the house. I pintrested about it for months!
(I know, these guys are epic right?)
Sadly, the cheapest of the quasi plastic 5' plastic skeleton exists for no less than $25 each. We wanted 6. You do the math. Now, with the termite treatment being done - six $25 skeletons does cartwheels out of our budget. I know, I'm sad about it too. But, a good friend of mine suggested that I find my 5' skeletons on clearance after Halloween - so that next year we can complete an epic picture. Brilliant!
However - that still leaves us with the noggin scratcher that is this year. The budget is tight no matter what, creating any kind of Halloween scene is going to have to happen on the cheap. We decided to stick with the skeletons and change how we actually implement them.
We found these little flat, glow in the dark 3' fellas at Savers (a thrift store, of course!)
We got 7 of them, they were $1.99 each.
We found some metal yard stakes at Michael's for a grant total of $9. They're not tall enough - but stay with me. We're going to re-use the PVC + metal yard stake (you know, they look like giant nails) that we figured out with the ghost ring - combine that with the decorative stakes we got - have those 3-footers hovering about 2 feet off the ground - and ... make magic happen. We even got a black light to illuminate them.
Okay, so the description is confusing - trust me. We're going to make it work, and it'll look spooktacular.
Bonus score at the Savers? $5 plug in Jack-O-Lanterns!
They both work, and the green one looks AWESOME when its lit up!
I also googled to find this image, I love those ghosts
over the garage, so I might try and figure out how to DIY that
The cars are fine, I scribbled out any identifying parts, haha |
There you have it folks, our Halloween prep.
We made some great strides in the Master Bath Remodel this weekend - but I'll leave that for another day.
Thanks for coming to read my blog!
Boo to you and yours eh? hee hee.
