This may mean a few things, perhaps I'm lacking in my photography efforts. Or maybe we're just lazy around here and not doing much besides eating. Most likely, it's a little of both. Okay - fine. I admit it, it's a lot of both.
Humor me, continue reading and see all things food will you?
Lets start out with the BBQ! This was already 2 weeks ago. (Seriously?! Two weeks? I really have gotten lazy, why do you guys put up with me?!)*sigh* moving on! 2 weeks ago was a fun BBQ hosted here at the Boswell House. We made ribs, delicious, succulent ribs. And what's the first step to such fantastic ribs? The rib rub of course!
Its like a magic elixir ... kinda. Wait, don't elixir's have to be liquid?
Anyway, this mix is so mind blowingly flavorful that I was thinking this year,
we should find some fancy little bottles and package it up as xmas presents!
Apply rub to ribs liberally and let set up for at least an hour. We wrapped ours
up in foil and let them hang out in the refrigerator until it was grillin' time.
Next up: Sides and sauce!
I love the rib sauce. Love, love, love that sauce. Really, sometimes I think
that I only eat the ribs as a catalyst to get the sauce into my face.
It starts with celery and onion, finely chopped
I'm sharing this part of the recipe because I managed to take this lovely photo of the starting ingredients.
You won't see any other steps, however; because I didn't take any more photos. In fact, I don't even have a picture of the completed sauce. It's just that this one picture is lovely, dangit. I had to post it! I know I talked up that sauce though, so I suppose you're just going to have to come over and try it at our next BBQ!
But I do have a picture of sides!
See here the green chili & cheese cornbread
I modified a from scratch recipe. So instead of mixing the flour, cornmeal,
baking powder etc. myself, I just snagged 2 boxes of America's Favorite:
To this, I added a cup of shredded cheese and a can of diced green chili. It was a huge hit!
I snagged this one shot of the spread as it was just starting to come together
Oh look you guys!! I DO have a picture of the finished sauce, it's on the right there, next to the hummus! WIN!
Also in this photo, the hummus of course, tasty pita chips, butter to go with the green chili cornbread and over in that green bowl was some tasty slaw. We also had a very large bowl of beans but, the rest of the night was filled with eating and socializing and taking pictures with people. Now, you guys know, this being a public forum I don't like to post pictures of folks who I didn't get permission from. Which means - I have no more BBQ photos to share with ya'll. Sorry about that.
The food though, the food continues!
Allow me to share with you some of our food adventuring this past weekend. We decided to get creative with what we had on hand, and for breakfast Sunday morning we had sonoran dogs... breakfast style!!
A hot dog wrapped in bacon. I mean honestly, what purer bliss is there?!
Once these were cooked we dressed them up with some onion, a little sauteed mushrooms, cheese and salsa
Sunday's adventure continues - we made a bisque for dinner!
Coconut milk, veggies, lime juice, fresh ginger, curry seasoning and for protein?
Mmm mmm mmm fish!!
We got this out of one of our Primal Blueprint cookbooks. It was citrusey, it was curry-ey, the fresh ginger popped, it was all so fresh and light it ended up being the perfect hot soup for summer. SO GOOD.
Dylan added a little hot sauce to his, the cilantro was for sprinkling and it was fantastic. In fact, we're having the leftovers from this soup for lunch tomorrow. It's okay to be jealous.
There you have it readers, my laziness presented in photo form. Just food.
Can I default to "it's better than nothing?" Sure I could do that, but it's not good enough.
Next blog post, I promise each and every one of you - I'll actually TRY. Seriously!
I'm going to make lists and everything, I swear it. See you guys then, and thanks for reading!!
