It came from the shadows! On a night, far enough in advance of Halloween to not interfere with anyone's planned costumes - but still close enough to Halloween to be part of the season - PROM NIGHT MASSACRE!
That's just a glimpse of the final product.
That franchise? Prom Night! The very first one was released in 1980 and starred Jamie Lee Curtis (hot off the heels of her Halloween fame) and Leslie Neilson - playing a serious role! (Well, as serious as you can be in a teen slasher flick.) There's plenty of sequels in this franchise, but we stuck with 1 and 2 for our purposes.
The first step was recruiting attendees and getting them on board with the theme. Instructions were to come dressed in your best gory, Carrie-esque, prom-night-gone-wrong attire. We came up with some parameters to vote for our Prom Court and enticed everyone with their potential titles & some inspiration questions:
A good reason to think about your prom-night-gone-wrong attire: all prom attendees will be voting on their prom court!
Some inspiration questions:
- Did you survive? What did you survive? Zombies? Perhaps vampires? Maybe you went up against werewolves, or just plain old bullies.
-Were you attacked by a crazed teen hating murderer?
-Did you die? Is that the look you'll be going for?
-Maybe you yourself are the murder or otherwise bad guy?!
-Have you been possessed by Mary Lou or another entity on your prom night?
- Did you survive? What did you survive? Zombies? Perhaps vampires? Maybe you went up against werewolves, or just plain old bullies.

The Prom Court titles include:
- Prom Scream: Best "bad guy" (doesn't have to be a dude.) These are the ones who did the dastardly prom-ruining!
- Prom Preen: who do you find to be the most dolled up or most dapper attendee?
- Prom Swing: The one who most looks like they kicked some serious ass on their prom night
- Prom Obscene: The costume that made you say "ugh" anything that may illicit an eye-roll or an audible "really?"
- Prom Lame: a chance to call out the lameoids that didn't even dress up
During a conversation at work, a week or two before I came up with the idea for this particular theme party - the notion of a "gourmet PB&J bar" came up. It was destiny!
Onward to the next step: PROM NOMS!!!
Choose your weapon: this was the bread, we offered up white, 12 grain and cinnamon raisin
Pick your poison: all the lovely innards!
We offered up: Crunchy & smooth peanut butter, nutella, cookie butter, orange marmalade, mixed berry jam, honey, and good old grape jelly!
The pizzaz offerings: granola, marshmallows, bananas, grapes, almonds
Last step: Kill it with fire! Which is basically grilling those puppies up like paninis.
Got a good shot of a fun concoction, they added potato chips!
As an alternative meal, we had hot dogs. But this is a theme party, remember?
Prom Queen Fingers & Buckets -o- Blood ~insert evil laugh~
For dessert: the internet told me about a "they're all going to laugh at you!" cake. So I went with that. And I LOVED IT!!
Last step: Cocktails!
We offered a boozy option and a virgin option
Carrie's pretty self explanatory, Vicki is the name of the main character in "Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2."
Manda tended bar:
We snagged a few prom pics
(I actually love this photo of us!)
Then everyone settled in to watch and enjoy the first film.
During intermission, made a few more sammiches, drank a few more cocktails and voted on our prom court.
Manda and I tied for Prom Swing, then we proceeded to take prom-pose-pics
Jay & Wendy's story was that they missed the mayhem @ prom, because they went out to the car to do it (which is honestly, perfectly prom themed! haha!)
But that story lead to Jay's winning Prom Obscene, hah!
So he posed accordingly
These two lovelies tied for Prom Preen, that 80's magenta dress - come on?! Love it!
Dylan was in the running for Prom Scream
But more votes came in for Nerissa to steal the title
Brooke & I got in on the violence of the evening
Then this lil' cutie snagged the title of "Prom Lame"
More snacks were had, and another movie was watched!
The cake continued to be a hit:
And by the end, she had experienced her very own horrific prom night of terror
