Bathrooms & Bookshelves

You've heard the old tale Bed Knobs & Broomsticks - well my friends - welcome to Bathrooms & Bookshelves. A mystical land full of remodels and whimsy!

I'll start with a little bit of back story. Over the summer, whilst visiting with family, we all decided that it makes the most sense to have Thanksgiving right here at the Boswell House. Dylan has family coming in from California and Texas. Since Fall is upon us and the holidays are drawing near, we took a look at our furniture and some arrangements and how we could best host such a prestigious holiday.

What we determined, was that we needed a larger dining table. One that seats 6. (This enables us to set up a legit "Kids Table" for thanks giving you guys I'm so freaking excited!) As luck would have it, a local furniture joint had this amazing Labor Day Sale! that extended to 2 weekends and we snagged a beautiful set for $300. Oddly enough, I have no pictures of the new table, you'll just have to wait with baited breath for that one.

Here's the thing though, furniture is like a drug. You can't stop with just one new thing, you get that one new thing and then all of a sudden you want to remodel ALL THE THINGS.
So, we indulged.

Starting with the Guest Bathroom!

Now I'm not going to lie, the plans here were a long time coming. But hosting Thanksgiving was the spark that lit that fire under us and we hit the ground running.

First, let's take a look at how the bathroom used to look:

You guys remember: the purple! *eeeeeeeeeek!*

Okay so I'll admit, I didn't think to take before photos until I taped everything off. Let's all just pause a moment here and bask in the amazing and awesome skills in which I had to enact to cover that toilet oh so meticulously. Thank you, thank you.

Here's the best part of this story. (I'd go back and find the blog post but 1. I don't want to put in the effort and 2. It's probably really embarrassing how long it's been)  THE PAINT! We scored this amazing color in the reject pile at Lowe's. And then we got a rebate on it. In the end, I think this paint cost us something like $4. Four dollars and it's freaking stunning.
Just, take a moment. Soak it in. It's so lovely now!!!

And we really put in the work to get it here!
Dylan hand painted the lines oh so close to the molding - perfectly!
Chelsea helped of course:

Then we repainted all of the white so that it would really pop!

We replaced the faucet:

As well as all of the fixtures
~*~*insert angels singing here~*~*

We even got a fancy new light fixture

Isn't it fantastic?! To top things off even further, I present our fancy new shiny chrome shower curtain rod!

We've had those roosters for - I can't even tell you how long. We got them 2nd hand ... somewhere, possibly on a trip - but from day 1 we knew we wanted them in that guest bathroom once it was finally remodeled. Today, we live the dream my friends.

The attention to detail continues, you see our little built in shelf has a backing called "bead board." So we found light switch and power covers that matched it.
Seriously impressive attention to detail, am I right?!

Chelsea 100% approves
(Chelsea loves the bathroom, we don't know why, we don't question her. We just let her enjoy here time in there.)

Once you've fancied up one room, the addiction is there. You must continue the fancying!
In comes the entertainment/storage situation.

For years now we've had a few bookshelves, some pulling double duties, others we just thought looked dated. I'll start with old oakey.
Poor old oakey. He did a fine job, he held all of our books and never gave us any guff. But as time passed, well. He just looked a little too 1993.

We talked a lot about different ways to replace old okaey, building our own, maybe making them metal. I can't tell you how many pins I have regarding this exact situation. Then one day, we were at Target. While at this Target we saw a lovely set of bookshelves on clearance. Previously sold for $139 (I'm not even kidding) now on sale for the low, low price of $32. Not only that, these shelves were beautiful! We flagged an associate who went above and beyond to track one down for us at another location and then another person at that location went above and beyond and set that shelf aside just for us for that amazing price. We couldn't believe it, and let me just stop and say: Mad Props to Target.

Here she is being built. Ah! I love it!
While Dylan was busy putting the bookshelf together, I deconstructed old oakey.

Then it was time to set up the new & lovely!
New & Lovely has a little more space than old okaey did. Not only that, but we rearranged some stuff on the entertainment center + those awesome blonde cube shelves that hang on the wall.
This enabled us to practically empty one of our bookshelves that was in the dining room housing books and DVDs

Come, gaze upon our organization.

But check this out! Photo boxes make for lovely and handy storage in our entertainment center

And! I used some boxes to make drawers out of our cupboard/shelves which is now where the majority of the DVDs live.

Everything really is coming up Milhouse.
Stay tuned folks!
