Work on the house continues ever onward. That's pretty much the way it goes, right? You do one thing, and it's a whole dominoing snowball until you've left no rug unturned! No faucet unpolished! No pantry un-well I haven't done anything to the pantry (yet.) but you get my drift. You know, honestly, we could look back at the real tip of this iceberg being that fabulous camel bar we brought home - but I digress!
Upon move out/move back in for the floors, 2 items shot to the top of the list as being ... well, shot.
Item #1: the rug.
Oh this rug. She's been with us for many years. She's lived through every accident a pet can throw at her. (And I mean, EVERY. Busted quicks while trimming nails, hair balls, Fifi's constant desire to pee indoors and you betcha, some duces too!) The thing about this rug, it always bounced back. But ... odors. Odors don't want to leave your things. We had it professionally cleaned a few times in its life with us. When we rolled it up at the end of July we asked that question, another cleaning? Or say goodbye? Well, we weren't prepared with a new rug or a truck to come get it for cleaning when it was time to move back in, so we laid it back down and that's when the regret kicked in and the decision to go new was made.
We made the obligatory "It really ties the room together!" joke, but the thing is - it does!
The colors work with the new floors and our wall colors, and look, more rectangles like the floor! It's also nice and plush, but I have a feeling the old one used to be that way, too.

Item #2: the dishwasher
I don't even have one photo of the old dishwasher. The decree was made, once removed, that dishwasher ain't going back in. So the crew who did the floors did us a favor and hauled it away.
Did you know there's a filter in your dishwasher you're supposed to clean once a month or so?
Yeah, neither did I. Nor was I going near the old one's.
In fact the new one has instructions for not only the one on the on top of the base that gets taken out and cleaned regularly, but for the one under the freakin' base of the thing that it suggests you clean up from time to time too. 0_0
I want to note about the dishwasher though, in my head, the part of the cabinets where it lived was going to be a sad, gross, too much-moisture mess. I wanted to have a contractor at the ready to remedy it for a new one to go in! To my (very pleasant) surprise - it wasn't that bad. Like, not even a little bit bad. It was clean!
Now before I get to the new one, I'm going to tell the story of events as they laid out. It was a good couple of weeks before we had a new one. In the interim, I was hand washing everything and trying my best to clean EVERY. SINGLE. THING. in the kitchen, because of all the dust you recall. Ladies and gents, I'm still not done cleaning EVERY. SINGLE. THING. in the kitchen. -_-
Anywho, hand washing. Right! So, on day 4 or 5 or so of moving back in, I tilted the faucet head to rinse out an item and when I did water exploded from the base. See, we have a telescoping handle, and where the flexy part meets the um... water dispensing unit was were the water-splosion was occurring. I wasn't even mad. I felt like I was living a sitcom, that ish was hilarious!
Still had to use the flippin sink though! So, I set up a containment unit underneath to deal with the dribbles that continuously ran down the flexy hose and I finagled the water dispensing unit to a spot where it wasn't splosin-ing, rather just doing the sad dribble thing. Husband went ahead and ordered a lovely new faucet from the internets.
I put a bag over it's head to remind us not to use it for every little thing.
Fast forward about a week and a half later: We'd shopped for a new dishwasher, it needed a few days for delivery and it arrived! To save a few bucks, Dylan DIY'd the install. (Actually, that part went off without a hitch! Sorry if that's disappointing news, did you want another hilarious tale? Why do you like to watch us suffer?) On the same day, we were going to replace the faucet, since the new one had also arrived.
Still going in sequence: Dishwasher install!
Husband really did do a lot of work to accomplish this. I took like 2 photos
There's my sexy DIY-er. ;)
Hey, it's my blog! I can call him out for sexiness if I want to!
Oh, bonus! There's a surprise Peggy back there, hah!
whoooeee, that's a good looking dishwasher!
I cant' wait for how lovely another photo like this will be if/when we manage to remedy that old, beat up kitchen of ours. But that's a story for another post!
Remember the new faucet? Yeah, so when we went to take apart the current busted one, Dylan stopped, fiddled with it for a minute and then said "wait, do all we need to do is screw this back together?" Yes. In fact. All we needed to do was screw the hosey bit back to the water dispensing unit.
Oh well, it's all on the up and up. 1. the sink works again and 2. We have a lovely new faucet for when the kitchen gets done/to motivate us to make sure it does indeed get done.
We continue to be productive in a slow but still-really-impressive-momentum-for-us kind of way. We de-cluttered a lot of what would have otherwise gone back into the office - yay! And look, we found this gem. We're keeping it, mostly as decoration. I dubbed it the "Dale Gribble Note to Self" ... if you know exactly what I'm talking about - high five & I love you. If you don't, here's a mini tutorial.
Now that we have our kitchen functioning again, foodie-ery continues!
We made this most excellent Bob's Burgers x Blue Apron!!!
I think it's worth noting, we tweaked it slightly. Anytime we've ever tried to roast sweet potatoes in the oven, they've burned. So this time, we soaked them in ice water for eh? 15, 20 minutes? Blue Apron didn't instruct us to do so, but we're glad we did. We also added some rosemary to the pickled radishes & cucumber because we had it lyin' around. Tasty manuver.
The very next day, we made ramen for breakfast
Well, now I'm hungry.
See you guys later!
