A Small Aboutski The Big Lebowski

Step 1: Have a friend who doesn't make their birthday a big deal
Step 2: Let a little time pass
Step 3: Have said friend be a huge fan of The Big Lebowski
Step 4: Love planning theme parties
Step 5: Trick your friend into thinking it's a regular Theme Party
Step 6: Have an awesome friend who can whip up graphics like nobody's business!
Step 7: A Small Aboutski The Big Lebowski is born
It's been a while, I think I may have omitted an "about" from the title - but I digress.
This party was epic.
We made a banner that crossed out the word Day in Birthday, followed by crossed out "week" followed by crossed out "month" and finished up with "Quarter!" hah! We're so clever.

Dylan and I were in charge of the cake, and this was one of my favorite parts!
Pro Tip: (and not only that, memories are coming back to me!) Internet research on bowling theme parties was super helpful for this party. We even found some freaking bowling pin sippy cups!! The Birthday girl got to drink from the bowling ball
Apparently past-self only got THIS ONE photo of those. Aw, geez!

Jon and I worked on the menu, theming some munchies for a Big Lebwoski theme party was a challenge but dare I say, we rocked it.
Also when I say "we" I mean Jon. I was mostly a sounding board that googled some images, but hey, teamwork is teamwork! Here we have Donny's Roast coffee, google fu lead me to the brilliant caricature of that famous scene
Here's the rest of Jon's genius at work:
The Nihilists' ethos was of particular import. It's an empty bowl. You just can't get more "the dude" than that.
To round out the menu we added more of the fantastic google fu artwork to donuts. If memory serves, we picked flavors that worked with the theme ... but I don't remember the flavors or reasoning behind each one. Sorry about that! Also, memory serves that those donuts were delish.

Next up: Photo Frame
We were inspired by this scene to generate a killer photo frame
I remember I drew up a hilarious blueprint on Microsoft Paint, started a fight with Dylan after almost putting the "are you a lebowski achiever" band in the wrong direction - but in the end we had this fantastic feat of theme party antics. Hands down, one of my most proud theme party moments.
Costume/themed dress was optional. I amazoned myself a Kaoru Betto shirt, Dylan donned a robe and a jug of half & half
Our friends, however, knocked it out of the park!
The Dude himself was even there, watching over us all. It was a great night! White Russians and a showing of the film, not a bad way to celebrate a birthday. Or, you know, throw a theme party.
